"We are running out of oil!" Heard it before, have you? Well look at it this way; we are already close to running out of the light, sweet crude oil that was easy to find. Now we have to go further out into deeper waters to greater depth to find crude oil that is of lower quality, heavily contaminated, and more expensive to get and to process. Power generating turbines are now being designed to burn this nasty crude.
The self-contained Allen Hydroscav Oil Purifier system uses filtration and thermal dehydration to remove solids and moisture from almost all types of oil. The AHS will remove all solid particles down to 5-micron, water down 50ppm or less and hydrocarbon gases through C9. With a compact design, Allen Hydroscav Oil Purifiers allow for easy installation and accessibility of components for servicing.

The function of transformer oil is insulation and cooling of transformers. A transformer consists of metal, oil, and cardboard insulation. The oil is actually insulating oil and is used not only in transformers, but also in circuit breakers, capacitors, bushings, and tap changers. Insulating oil is a refined mineral oil obtained from fractional distillation of crude oil. It is free of moisture, inorganic acids, alkali, sulfur, asphalt, tar, and vegetable or animal oils.

In early 1995, a new compressor for processing light hydrocarbons was brought online for the liquefaction of these products. The lube oil system was charged with expensive synthetic oil. From the first startup, it was found that the liquefied gas was leaking into the lube oil. The gas was becoming entrained in the oil diluting it, lowering its flash point and viscosity, and reducing the lubricatingcapability to unacceptable levels.
Phosphate esters are polar fluids with excellent lubricating properties that can operate under extreme conditions such as electro-hydraulic compounds for steam and gas turbines, aircraft carriers, as well as steel mills and foundries. However, phosphate esters require strict control in order to extend their useful lifespan.
